Public Service Day 2016 Report

Public Service Day was institutionalized as a Public Service activity in the year 1999. The initial celebrations spanned over a period of one week. Major objectives of the activities were as follows:

  •  to build camaraderie among public officers.
  •  to recognize the contributions of retired officers in the development of the Public Service.
  •  to recognize excellence in the delivery and performance of services with a view of improving efficiencies and ultimately the administration of Public Services.

Major objectives still remain. The awards ceremonies have been staged over the years in recognition of excellence in the performances of duties and also, for contributions made by retired officers to nation building.

Traditionally, Public Service Day is observed on the first Friday in December. Public Service Day was an annual event until after 2006, when celebrations took place every two years.
